Geology & Environmental Geosciences
Dr. Scherer uses microfossils in glacial and marine sediments in Antarctica to reconstruct past ice sheet configurations and current ice sheet stability. His work in West Antarctica documents geologically recent past ice sheet collapse events and seeks to reduce uncertainty in evolving ice sheet models by providing boundary conditions and validity tests. His research focuses on climate change as it relates to global sea level rise as glaciers retreat.
Current Student Research Opportunities
There are opportunities for students who are interested in researching microscopic fossils from a variety of settings, freshwater and marine, and spanning a wide range of ages and time scales.
