Internet Explorer 9 - Browser Configuration
Browser Pop-up Setting
- Open Internet Explorer
- Select Tools > Pop-up Blocker
- Select Pop-up Blocker Settings

- Add the following web sites:
- *.niu.edu
- Myniu.niu.edu
- Niufs.niu.edu
- Niuhrs.niu.edu
- Blocking Level:
- Low: Allow pop-ups from secure sites
- Click Close

Cookies
- Open the Browser
- Select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Under Browser History, select Delete
- Select Delete Cookies next to the Cookie area

Excel
(View Excel files in Excel instead of a browser window)
- Open the Browser
- Select Tools from the Menu toolbar
- Select Internet Options
- Select the Advanced tab
- In the Browsing section, uncheck the Reuse windows for launching shortcuts
(when tabbed browsing is off)
- Click OK

Windows XP
- Open the My Computer icon
- Select Tools > Folder Options


- Scroll down in the list of registered file extensions to XLS or XLSX (i.e. Excel)
- Click the Advanced button
- Uncheck the "Confirm open after download" option
- Uncheck the "Browse in the Same Window" option

This will allow the file to open in Excel instead of a browser window.

Security Setting Downloads & Scripting
- Open Internet Explorer
- Select Tools > Internet Options

- Select the Security Tab
- Click Custom level ...

Downloads
- Scroll down to Downloads
- Click Enable on the following:

Scripting
- Scroll down to Scripting
- Click Enable on Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted windows
- Click OK to return to the Internet Options Page
- Click OK

SSL Issue
When using Internet Explorer 9 and accessing a secured website, you may get a message that indicates the page cannot be displayed. Below are the steps to resolve this problem.
- Open Internet Explorer
- Select Tools > Internet Options

- Click the Content Tab
- Click the Clear SSL state button

- Click OK
- The SSL Cache Cleared Successfully window appears

Temporary Internet Files (Cache)
- Open the Browser
- Select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Under Browser History, select Delete
- Uncheck the Preserve Favorites website data (PeopleSoft users must do this)
- Select Delete Files next to Temporary Internet files

Trusted Sites
- Open the Browser
- Select Tools
- Select Internet Options
- Select the Security tab & select Trusted Sites
- Select Sites next to the Trusted Sites area
- Enter the trusted website under the Add this website to the zone
- Click Add
- Click Close on the Trusted sites window
- Click OK on the Internet Options window
