If you are selected as a Research Rookie and are in the STEM or health field, you are also able to apply and be recognized as a Simmons Scholar.

Double Huskies Jaymie and Harry Simmon were inspired by some of our best and brightest when they attended Undergraduate Research and Artistry Day in 2011. They viewed more than 120 student presentations, including several from participants in Research Rookies. They were so impressed with the students’ work and Research Rookies, they were inspired to help.

As a result of that visit, they made a significant gift to provide annual scholarship and program support for five Research Rookies from a STEM or health field.Simmon Scholars are awarded this honor for their academic performance and commitment to Research Rookies. The 2016-17 Simmon Scholars are Alejandra Macias, Emili Mikolajczyk, Aspen Wheeler, Jocelyn Zambrano, and Paula Moraga.

Students must be one of the following majors to apply: biology, chemistry, geology, geography, physics, engineering, mathematics, technology, nursing, physical therapy, allied health and communicative disorders, or nutrition.

The 2017-18 Application is now open.
