The electrical engineering discipline involves design, development, and operation of systems that generate and use electronic signals. In the electrical engineering curriculum, undergraduate students acquire both a fundamental and practical knowledge of electronic devices and circuits, electromagnetic fields, electronic materials, digital signals and systems, computers, and many forms of electronic design.

New or transfer students who are interested may go to http://www.niu.edu/admissions for more information.

The NIU Department of Electrical Engineering also encourages students to apply to the graduate program and pursue the advantages and endless opportunities it has to offer.  In addition to the course emphasis of an advanced curriculum, the benefits of assistantships, tuition waivers, and supplementary stipends are often granted to those with the utmost dedication.

NIU is located in the heart of the Midwest, just 60 miles west of Chicago in DeKalb, Illinois.  At NIU, students not only gain a phenomenal education but will also be surrounded by numerous local manufacturing companies, some of which are among the largest in the U.S.  It is a wonderful area in which to network, gain employment, and develop life-long relationships.

The Department of Electrical Engineering is currently accepting applications for graduate admission for the upcoming semesters.  To obtain more information and to apply, please visit http://www.grad.niu.edu; or for a more personal response, an e-mail may be sent directly to the acting department chair, Dr. Ibrahim Abdel-Motaleb (ibrahim@ceet.niu.edu), who would appreciate an opportunity to speak with you.
