Support for Proposal Improvement and Resubmissions (SPIR)

The Division of Research and Innovation Partnerships encourages research, scholarship, artistry and entrepreneurship across campus by promoting the professional development of faculty and graduate students.

The Support for Proposal Improvement and Resubmission (SPIR) program makes resources available to NIU faculty who wish to revise and resubmit a proposal for external funding. SPIR support is only available to faculty whose proposal for external funding received strong review scores or promising referee comments but for which no award was made.

Funding requests will be evaluated and approved on a case-by-case basis by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation Partnerships.

SPIR support may include but is not limited to:

  • Reanalysis of data
  • Analysis of new data
  • Access to additional data
  • Identification of appropriate external reviewers to review a submission draft

To find out if SPIR is the right fit for your resubmission, contact your SPA Research Development Specialist (Link to SPA staff page) to discuss your reviewer comments/scores.

Faculty receiving SPIR support will be expected to follow all SPA proposal preparation and submission deadlines as mutually agreed upon with the Research Development Specialist.
