Mid-America Consortium for Southeast Asian Studies (MAXIS)

In early 2009, CSEAS suggested the establishment of a regional consortium of National Recourse Centers, other institutions, and individuals with a commitment to Southeast Asian Studies. Through this consortium, we hope to achieve the intensification of outreach and greater collaboration among the Mid-American region institutions and scholars focusing on Southeast Asian studies.

We expect MAXIS to facilitate the exchange of visiting scholars and speakers, the movement of students for coursework and colloquia, the exploration of shared distance learning and online instruction, the organization of joint workshops, the collaboration of faculty members in addressing new perspectives in the field and the wider dissemination of information about Southeast Asia to American society, in particular by reaching out to community colleges and independent scholars as well as K–16 educators.
