JoAnn Gill is a transfer student from Kishwaukee College who is earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Family, Consumer and Nutrition Sciences. She has an expected graduation date of Fall 2015. She has hopes of pursuing a career as either a social worker or career counselor after her degree. She is a Northern Illinois University employee in the Customer Support Services office. She has a daughter, son-in law, and three grandchildren. Her daughter is currently a principle at Tyler Elementary School in DeKalb.

One of JoAnn’s biggest challenges in coming back to school was overcoming her fear of her difficulties with math; however, with the support of her daughter and her belief in God, she decided to come back to school as it was something she always wanted to do in life. Throughout her educational journey, she has welcomed and appreciated the help of the younger students. She continues to enjoy meeting new people and learning from them. JoAnn welcomes the challenge of juggling her multiple responsibilities of being a grandmother, employee, and student with her volunteer duties at Kishwaukee Hospital and Hope Haven.

Personal Motto:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Advice for Fellow Students:

"Follow your dreams and never give up on them. You will come to appreciate the experience of failure as a part of success. It is well worth it in the end. There is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle."
