Our students enjoy access to a tapeless digital production environment that provides the framework for a quality educational experience.
The centerpiece of this experience is our computerized NewsKing Electronic News Room (ENR) system. NewsKing is a standard fixture in many commercial television news operations. At NTC, we use it to teach students how to properly write news scripts and produce our nightly news programs.
NewsKing lets us read Associated Press wire service reports and display text on our studio script prompting system. It also automates the creation and airing of custom digital images, generated by our state-of-the-art Compix digital broadcast graphics system. NTC has more than 20 NewsKing computer stations available for classroom instruction.
We are also a CNN Newsource in the Classroom affiliate, one of only 10 in the state of Illinois. Our collaboration gives us access to CNN's global satellite video news feeds. CNN Newsource in the Classroom is a valuable resource in producing our daily student newscasts, in localizing national and international stories, in writing to video and natural sound, and in developing and sharpening video editing skills.
