What Will We Do All Day?
* The Physics of Amusement Parks: Spinning, Rolling and Falling for Fun
Investigate the forces that make amusement parks so much fun. Experience the thrill of designing and constructing your own mini roller coaster.
* Polymer Chemistry: From Slime and Goopy Stuff to Bullet Proof Plastics
Investigate the chemical properties of polymers and what makes them different from other substances. Produce several different polymer solutions to take home with you.
* Electricity and Magnetism: Ben Franklin and Thomas Edison as Your Lab Partners
Investigate the interactions between electricity and magnetism through experiments done by Ben Franklin Thomas Edison among others. What makes all your electronic gear function?
Who should attend?
SciCamp is for students who are currently in grades 6, 7, 8.
Fees
$295 ($325 after 10/19/07); returning LA&S campers are eligible receive a $25 discount.
Science Camp Director
Patricia Sievert is the Outreach Coordinator for the Physics Department. Patricia is a former High School Physics teacher with an M.S. in Physics and many years of experience working with young people in camps and schools. The staff is comprised of NIU faculty, staff and NIU students majoring in the sciences.
