Travel with the Professor:

Illinois Holocaust Museum

and Alphawood Galleries

November 9, 2017

On Thursday, November 9, Professor Michael and Takako Day will lead an emotional and educational journey to the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center in Skokie, Illinois and the “Then They Came for Me” exhibit at the Alphawood Gallery. External Programming is proud to offer this unique learning experience as part of its Travel with a Professor Series

The Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons to combat hatred, prejudice, and indifference.  The museum fulfills its mission through the exhibition, preservation, and interpretation of its collections and through educational programs and initiatives that foster not only the promotion of human rights, but the elimination of genocide.

The “They They Came for Me” exhibit draws heavily on photographs taken by renowned photographers Dorthea Lange and Ansel Adams of the Japanese prisoners of the U.S. internment camps. A persistent message of the exhibit is that intolerance, fear, and hysteria can have the same effect today.
