Northern Illinois University Announces First "Making a Difference" Seminar and Lunch Wednesday, Nov. 4
DeKalb, IL - Anyone in the community wanting to discover how they truly make a difference and to communicate more effectively in the workplace will have an opportunity on Wed. Nov. 4 from 11:30 a.m. - 1:45 p.m. in the Duke Ellington Ballroom at the Holmes Student Center.
Greg Risberg, a certified speaking professional from the National Speakers Association who has presented and entertained audiences in 48 states along with Canada, England, and Australia will be giving his "You Make a Difference" seminar presentation.
This program is designed to help people recognize and appreciate their contributions, talents, and abilities, and to learn how to communicate more effectively in the workplace.
Risberg brings a unique "humor with a message" style to his presentations that leave audiences laughing and smiling. In the past 20 years, he has been proud to bring his special humor with a message to health care, business, government, farming, and education professionals.
Participants can arrive at 11:30 a.m. to enjoy conversation and a lunch buffet of Caesar salad, vegetarian Italian pasta salad, grilled chicken strips, tomato basil bread, bread sticks, fresh melon wedges with yogurt dip, soup du jour and an assorted cookie and dessert bar tray.
The presentation will start at 12:30 p.m. with a prize drawing.
Parking is available in the NIU visitor's parking lot on Carroll Avenue for those registering from off-campus for a $5 fee payable at the parking lot booth on the day of the event.
Registration is now open for this event with early bird registration ending on Oct. 27.

LA&S External Programming partners for reading
NIU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences External Programming is partnering with the DeKalb Public Library for its "Big Read" event effort this month.
The DeKalb Public Library and partners received a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to present "The Big Read" to the citizens of DeKalb County for the third consecutive year.
"The Big Read" was created to promote literary reading, bring communities together in discussion and celebrate great works of literature. Copies of a collection of Edgar Allen Poe writings will be distributed free to everyone who attends a Big Read event while supplies last.
More than 500 NIU Chance students and freshman English majors also are taking part in the month-long event.

NIU community encouraged to donate blood The DeKalb County Public Library will sponsor a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, at the library, 309 Oak Street, DeKalb. As NIU partners with the DeKalb County Public Library for "The Big Read" event, NIU faculty, staff and students are encouraged to help "Raise a Pint for Poe."
