Chinese Language and Culture Day Camp

Through a series of hands-on cultural activities, NIU 2018 Chinese summer day camp for students entering grades 5-8 provides a great opportunity for students to experience and explore different aspects of Chinese art, history and language. Contact 815-753-5200 or


Mrs. Ling Li is an associate professor from Southwest University in China; currently she is an instructor at NIU sponsored by Confucius Institute.  Ling has over 20 years teaching experience, eight years of which she specialized in young learners from age 5 to 17.

Ling is co-founder of "Two Times Fun” English Center, with more than 200 students currently enrolled.  As a founder, supervisor and principal teacher, Ling designs curriculum, trains and evaluates teachers.  She is also the architect of language and cultural extra-curriculum activities at the center.  Ling has been the recipient for several teaching awards, one of which is 2016 Teacher of the Year at Southwest University.   Her research focuses on language learning pedagogy. 

Dr. Lanhui Ryder is an instructor at Northern Illinois University (NIU) Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.  She has years of teaching experience from beginning to advanced Mandarin Chinese, business Chinese, Chinese history and culture.  Lanhui has been active in research in the field of mobile assisted language learning. 

Born and raised in Northern China, Lanhui earned her bachelor degree in Chinese Language and Literature from Beijing Normal University.  She worked as a journalist in Chinese television and newspaper industry before coming to U.S. to pursue advanced degrees.  In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Ryder leads NIU’s summer study abroad program in China for a 25-day travel-study journey.  She enjoys utilizing her bilingual and bicultural expertise to connect U.S. with China.
