Academic Fairs

Each spring, the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences External Programming is proud to sponsor two academic fairs that bring young scholars from across the region to NIU's campus to share their research with each other and the community:

  • The Northern Illinois Regional History Fair
  • The Northern Illinois Region V IJAS Science Fair

Our fairs provide an excellent educational opportunity for junior high and high school students to keep up with today's fast-changing academic environment by going beyond the limits of the classroom. We look for and encourage more than just basic knowledge and ability. We challenge students to engage with the subject matter, to explore new ways to learn, and to develop the research skills that will aid them in the next phase of their academic careers.

Projects and papers judged to be superior advance to statewide expositions held in Springfield (History) and Urbana-Champaign (Science).

Through this fun educational experience, we aim to provide encouragement and recognition to those students who may become the historians and scientists of tomorrow.
