Internships provide students with the opportunity to network with individuals in their area of interest, add strong credentials to their resumes, and real world experience. According to Student Site Evaluation Reports in 2012:
98% of students who did an internship found their internship to be relevant to their major.
88% of students described their internship experience as “outstanding” or “very good.”
97% of students would recommend their internship experience to a friend.
Catherine Doederlein works diligently with students to find internship opportunities that meet their needs and expectations. In addition, NIU holds an Internship Fair annually that allows students interested in internship opportunities to communicate directly with companies who are seeking interns.
Internships offer students from all areas of study the opportunity to apply what they're learned in real world scenarios. A recent study done in 2012 by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) indicates that 60% of students who pursue paid internships are offered at least one job after the completion of their internships, often from the employers they interned for.
