In Celebration of the Newly Upgraded NMR Facility
In a joint departmental proposal, Profs. Narayan Hosmane, Douglas Klumpp, and Dmitry Kadnikov, and Research Technologist Manager Heike Hofstetter, Ph.D., combined to obtain funding for a project entitled "Upgrade and Cyber-Enhancement of a 500 MHz NMR Instrument Console." This, coupled with support from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Office of the Vice President for Research to purchase a 300 MHz NMR, will meet departmental NMR needs for the foreseeable future.
In early February, the many shipments (and boxes) began to arrive. Within about eight weeks, the installation, training, and testing of new equipment was complete, and the department was home to a new 300 MHz NMR and an upgraded 500 MHz NMR.
In celebration of the newly upgraded NMR facility, the department hosted a reception on Wednesday, April 28, 2010. NIU students, faculty, and staff enjoyed visiting in the NMR Lab and seeing the new equipment. A special thanks to all who have helped make this upgrade possible!
