Lean Six Sigma Certificates

A certificate in Lean Six Sigma prepares you to eliminate waste or inefficiency in your workplace. Specifically, the certificates address how managerial employees can rid their systems of Defects, Overproduction, Transportation, Waiting, Inventory, Motion, and Overprocessing as it applies to engineering concepts. 

If you are a professional working in a hospital, a manufacturing facility, or any service industry, a certificate in Lean Six Sigma helps you learn the tools necessary to undertake continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing and eliminating waste, reducing project variations, improving customer satisfaction, and increasing your organization's bottom line.

The College of Engineering & Engineering offers four certificates in Lean Six Sigma:

White Belt: 4 hours course  

White Belt Certification training provides professionals basic improvement knowledge and methods that can be applied to their daily work. The training covers all the foundational concepts that a Lean Six Sigma practitioner must know and hands on experience to gain confidence in applying these tools and methods. The topics covered are: What is Lean Six Sigma, Everything is a Process, Every Process Must Flow, and DMAIC problem solving process.

Yellow Belt: 1-day course

Lean: VSM, 5S, Mistake-proofing, Pull Systems, Little's Law, SMED, Takt time, PDCA, Fishbone, Scatter plots, Process Maps, Kaizen events, measurements, Continuous Improvement

Green Belt: 4-day course, after completing Yellow Belt

Define: Origins of Six Sigma, SMART problem/goal statement, CTQ tree, SIPOC, Pareto Analysis, Stakeholder Analysis, COPQ, Project Charter

Measure: Process Maps, Cause and Effect diagrams, Measures and Metrics (DPU, FPY, DPMO), KPI Trees, Location and Spread, Sampling, MSA, MSA Drill down, Gage R&R, Cp, Cpk, IMR and Run Charts

Analyze: Source of Variation, ANOVA, Hypothesis testing, p-value, Simple Linear Regression, DoE

Improve: Affinity Diagrams, FMEA, Cost-benefit Analysis, Solution Storming and Selection, Solution Validation, Benchmarking

Control: Project Management, Change Management, Control Plans, Poka - Yoke, Control Charts, Dashboard tracking, Documentation

In class activities include simulations during the training days.

Participants are required to complete a small project and present the project findings to a panel of judges in order to obtain a green belt. Depending on your availability and the nature of the support that one receives from the organization in which the project is conducted, it could take anywhere from three to four months to complete the project.

Black Belt: 5-day course, after completing Green Belt

Online Modules: Lean and refresher on green belt training

Day 1: Project Selection, Benchmarking, Change Management, FMEA - Design FMEA, Software FMEA, Reverse FMEA, FTA

Day 2: Probability distributions, Confidence intervals, Operational definitions, Data transformations, DMAIV vs. DMADV, Regression, contingency tables

Day 3: Multivariate Analysis, Transfer functions, DOE - Randomization, blocking, replications, factorial design, Non-parametric tests

Day 4: DFSS, QFD, Kansei Engineering, factor analysis, Knao model, TRIZ, Pugh matrix, RSM

Day 5: Building functional teams, facilitating teams events, executive level presentations

 In class activities include simulations during the training days.

Depending on your availability and the nature of the support that one receives from the organization in which the project is conducted, it could take anywhere from four to six months to complete the project.
