Non-Credit Professional Development & Outreach

NIU's College of Engineering & Engineering Technology (CEET) offers a variety of opportunities that do not provide college credit, including camps, professional development, OSHA training courses, corporate training, consulting, and other programs.

The National Safety Education Center

The NSEC is an OSHA training institute, offering both trainer and training courses and certificates in the Construction, General Industry, Safety and Health, and Disaster Site and Maritime industries.

Professional Development

NIU's Professional Development Outreach division offers certifications and certificates in safety, health, facility management, LEED and Sustainability training and other continuing education areas. Courses are offered online, in the suburbs of Chicago, and in Rockford, IL.

Worldwide Youth in Science & Engineering

The WYSE is a series of tests given to high school students in Illinois and Missouri. These tests rank the brightest students according to their knowledge and skills in science and engineering. 

Summer Camps

Each summer, the College of Engineering and Engineering Technology offers several opportunities for high school and middle school students to explore the world of engineering. Perfect for students already enjoying science and for those maybe considering it as a career. Join us at a camp and give your brain a workout this summer!

STEM Outreach: Science, Technology, Engineering, & Math Programs

NIU's STEM Outreach delivers off-campus programs and on-campus activities designed to increase science, technology, engineering, and mathematics literacy and enthusiasm among P-12 students, their families, and educators. Our office provides a central place to find information on the numerous outreach programs offered by NIU's STEM departments and the colleges.

Enhancing Engineering Pathways

Northern Illinois University - Enhancing Engineering Pathways (NIU-EEP) is a program funded by the Motorola Foundation to establish a sustainable pathway for the middle and high school girls through the girl scout organizations to the Field of Engineering.

Onsite & Corporate Training

All of our non-credit courses can be packaged and brought to a location of your choice, including our OSHA safety training and other engineering courses. We also work with many corporate facilities offering internships, engineers in residence opportunities and consulting.

Lean Six Sigma

We offer Yellow, Green and Black Belt training all over the state of Illinois. We can even come to your facility to teach.
