NIU Collaborative on Early Adolescence

Welcome

The NIU Collaborative on Early Adolescence (NIU-CEA) supports young adolescent learning and development in the academic, social, emotional, health, cultural, and civic areas. NIU-CEA engages university, school, and community partners to understand shared needs, identify resources, and solve problems.

NIU-CEA in the News

NIU-CEA members, Dr. Jennifer Schmidt and Dr. Lee Shumow, were recently awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation to write a book aimed at teachers of science. In their research in science classrooms, Schmidt and Shumow found that boys received more attention from teachers than girls. Their book is intended to guide science teachers in creating an atmosphere that will engage both girls and boys. For more information about the research findings, click here.
