In compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act, support services are provided by CAAR to ensure that students with disabilities have equal access to the educational opportunities offered at the university.
CAAR uses the definition of disability included in both Section 504 and the ADA: "a disability is any physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities." CAAR serves students with hearing, mobility, and visual impairments along with students who have hidden disabilities, such LD, ADD/ADHD, chronic medical conditions, and psychiatric disabilities.
To initiate services, students must submit the necessary and appropriate official documentation verifying the disability.
Once the necessary documentation is on file with CAAR, the student schedules an intake appointment with a CAAR coordinator to complete the necessary CAAR information forms. At this time, the CAAR coordinator will discuss with the student appropriate accommodations, how to access other services available, and answer any questions.
All students must attend a CAAR orientation before utilizing CAAR services and/or accommodations.
