Applicants with disabilities submit the same information as all applicants. See Undergraduate Admissions.
For detailed information on special programs or courses, refer to the current Undergraduate Catalog and contact the appropriate college or departmental office.
If you feel that your entrance examination or high school/college performance was adversely affected by special circumstances related to a documented disability, you should include a separate statement summarizing your circumstances with your application.
CAAR will help you gain access to the appropriate support services. Contacting CAAR early, preferably as soon as you are accepted, helps ensure that you receive the services most appropriate to your situation. You will need to provide CAAR with appropriate documentation of your disability.
If you are denied admission as a freshman, you are strongly encouraged to enroll at a community college and to transfer to NIU after completion of a baccalaureate-oriented A.A. or A.S. degree or at least 24 hours of transferable credit.
If you have been denied admission as a transfer student, and feel that there has been a misunderstanding, you can appeal the decision through the Office of Admissions. If you would like assistance in this process, contact CAAR prior to contacting the Office of Admissions.
