Center for Access-Ability Resources

It is the responsibility of the Center for AccessAbility Resources (CAAR) to see that qualified individuals who request services are provided appropriate accommodations in compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

CAAR works toward achieving its mission by:

  • providing direct support services to students with disabilities
  • serving as a resource to other offices in the university, enabling them to more effectively meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

CAAR advocates accessible opportunities by providing a wide range of support services tailored to the individual student, including admissions arrangements, auxiliary aids (interpreters, notetakers, readers, etc.), books in alternative formats, advising/counseling, adapted equipment/computers, special residence hall arrangements, etc.

We cooperate with a network of other NIU offices and off-campus agencies to enhance related services and enable individuals with disabilities to reach their maximum effectiveness and optimum level of performance at NIU.

Personal contact is very important, so contact a CAAR coordinator if you have questions or concerns.

We look forward to working with you during your time at NIU!
