Bilu ma (female ogre) seated as
guardian figure

Red lacquered wood with gilding and glass inlays

Burma/Myanmar, Mandalay Period: 19th Century
BC; Northern Illinois University
Konrad and Sarah Bekker Collection

The Bilu ma (female ogre), almost always seen in a pair with a Bilu, differs from the male figure by the position of the knees; and her face, headpiece, and dress are  much simpler than those of her male counterpart.
