Importing Materials from a Course Cartridge

Textbook publishers often offer course content materials that can be imported into a Blackboard course from a course cartridge. This might include eBooks, multimedia learning modules, practice quizzes, assignments, tests, and supplemental links.

The publisher provides a course cartridge key to the Faculty Member and the Faculty Member uses that key to download the materials into the Blackboard course.

Faculty Members should be sure to import the cartridge before making any other changes to the new course.

From the course CONTROL PANEL, under COURSE OPTIONS, the Faculty Member clicks on IMPORT COURSE CARTRIDGE.

Then the Faculty Member can paste or type in the provided Course Cartridge Faculty Member download key and click SUBMIT.

Be patient. The content can take hours to completely load.

The system sends the Faculty Member an e-mail indicating that the course cartridge was processed. If the cartridge was successfully installed, the cartridge content will be visible to you within your course. There are often database error warning messages that can be ignored.

Faculty Members should visually navigate their course and inspect it to be sure that the content they need is accessible from the course.

Most publishers require that you use a different cartridge key to import into each created section. Unless the publisher specifically indicates that the materials can be copied from one section to another, attempting to do so will probably fail.

Do not expect to be able to import content from more than one cartridge into the same course. This generally is not possible. If content from a second cartridge is essential for a particular course, a supplemental course can be manually created in Blackboard by contacting the ITS Helpdesk with the request.
