Basic adaptive release rules consist of a single restrictive criterion which is applied to course content, assignments, or assessments in Blackboard. Basic criteria which can be applied include: date, username, group membership, completion of a gradebook item, and review status.
**Note - Review Status criteria are problematic in Blackboard version 6.3. DO NOT attempt to employ a basic adaptive release rule based on review status.
Create a Basic Rule: To create a basic adaptive release rule, navigate to the location in the course where the content, assignment, or assessment you wish to restrict resides. Click the
button to make changes or add documents.
Click the
button to have gain access to both the basic and adaptive release tools.
Select
to create or edit basic adaptive release rules.
Set ONE of the basic rules available. DO NOT attempt to apply multiple criteria to a basic rule. Select from the following basic rule types:
Date Rule: The date restriction prevents users from viewing the item except during the designated date/time range.

Membership Rule: This restriction is based on the membership status of a user to specific group within the course or an individual user designation. Either browse for a particular username of a student in the course OR select one or more course groups.
Gradebook Item Rule: This restriction is based upon the completion of any item in the gradebook, with the user required to either have attempted the item or earned a score within a specified range.

Review Status Rule: This restriction rule is based upon whether or not a student has reviewed another piece of content in the course. **Caution - This criterion currently does not properly restrict the release of content when employed in a basic rule. DO NOT use review status for for managing content.

After selecting the criterion for the basic rule, click SUBMIT and then OK .
