Secondary Science Edcation Summit

The NIU Center for Secondary Science and Mathematics Education, in partnership with the Department of Biological Sciences and the Illinois Science Teachers Association held the first Secondary Science Education Summit for science teachers on Saturday, May 7, 2016, in DeKalb, IL.

Speakers for the event included an NIU STEM Outreach Update by Pati Seivert, an ISTA Update by ISTA President Elect Jason Crean, and Keynote Speaker, Vice President of the ISTA, Mike Fumagalli.

The topics for the breakout sessions featured Fire Safety, Building an Earth and Space Science Education Network, Key Shifts in Science: Transitioning to NGSS, Next Generation Science Standards and Scientific Argumentation, Curating, Organizing, and Sharing Open Educational Resources using IOER, Zoo Genetics Plus – Using Real World Data in the Classroom, and Find Your Rhythm with Stories and STEAM.  Participating teachers received documentation for 5.5 Professional Development Hours.
