The NIU Pep Band contributes to the Huskies’ home court advantage by playing upbeat, popular music to energize the team and the crowd. Members of Pep Band receive academic credit for participation in both fall and spring semesters. The Pep Band rehearses 2-3 times a semester on Tuesday from 8-10pm.
Students at NIU can sign up for pep band by enrolling in MUSE 336-Pep Band. Auditions happen during the first rehearsal.
Fall Pep Band
The Fall Pep Band, formerly called "Huskie Volleyball Band," debuted during the 1998 fall season. The Fall Pep Band is honored to perform a few home matches of the Women's Volleyball team and support them in their quest for another successful season. In addition, the Fall Pep Band provides the home court advantage for the pre-season basketball games. Fall Pep Band has only a few rehearsals over the entire semester; the bulk of the class meetings are performances.
Spring Pep Band
The Spring Pep Band plays at most Men’s and Women’s home basketball games, and provides both support for the team and entertainment for the crowd. The Spring Pep Band also travels to any post-season tournaments. Membership in the Spring Pep Band is separate from the Fall Pep Band. Students can participate in one or both as they choose.
