Huskie Band

Brett Stickrod, Color Guard Coach

Brett Stickrod is an alum of the Northern Illinois University Huskie Marching Band having marched in the band for 4 years in the Color Guard. He was captain for 3 of those years and earned the “Outstanding Color Guard Member” and “Outstanding Marching Huskie” Awards in 2008. Brett marched in the world class Academy Drum & Bugle Corps from Phoenix, AZ, in 2008 in the flag and rifle sections. Not only did he have the experience of a lifetime, he found some extra time to put his degree to use and designed the Academy’s guard shirts.

Brett attended Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin, IL, where he was in the band for 4 years and the captain for the Winter Guard for 3 years. In 2003, while still in high school, he marched with the ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Company) all rifle corps, performing at local events such as Chicago’s Halsted Market Days and the Chicago Pride Parade.

Brett is looking forward to teaching the guard at NIU this year and having the opportunity to give back to his Alma Mater. He is also the guard instructor at Harry D. Jacobs High School. While making the most of his B.A. in Art degree, he is striving to become a respectable artist. His emphasis is painting watercolors, and he has recently shown multiple works in galleries and competitions in Crystal Lake and Park Ridge, IL.
