Photography

The Photography field of study is intended for individuals who wish to explore the medium as fine art. Students are exposed to a variety of approaches, and importance is attached to contemp-orary developments, new ideas, and inventive techniques, without neglecting the valid traditional considerations of photo-graphic processes.
In the curriculum, photography students have the opportunity to work in a variety of ways, ranging from experimental techniques and mixed media applications to documentary projects, studio methods, and introductory commercial aspects of photography.
The photography facilities, located on the third floor of Arends Hall, include darkrooms for both black and white and color as well as some non-silver processes, digital work stations, and a classroom/studio, used for critiques and demonstrations, which is also equipped with both incandescent studio lights and pro-fessional electronic flash.
While the emphasis in photography is in personal creative work, the skills and experiences gained during coursework may form a good foundation for those who choose to enter a more commercial photographic activity.
