Sculpture

The area of study in Sculpture provides students with a range of skills, techniques and facilities as they pursue individual expression in sculpture. Exposure to traditional and contemporary philosophies, class critiques, and discussions with visiting artists helps students formulate an artistic direction.
In beginning sculpture courses, students explore theories, contexts and methods of object making and are encouraged to experiment through problem solving studio assignments. Following basic course work, students are expected to develop a critical and theoretical analysis appropriate to their own processes and activities.
The primary sculpture facilities are located on the first floor of Arends Hall and are equipped with metal, wood working, bronze and aluminum casting facilities. Additional facilities for advanced and graduate students are located in the Pleasant Street Studios.
