Printmaking

An emphasis in printmaking allows students to pursue individual creativity and technical competency in all fine art printmaking media.
Students in this area must complete a basic course in each of the four major printmaking disciplines--intaglio, lithography, serigraphy, and relief--prior to pursuing advanced work in a specific medium. All basic printmaking courses provide the student with a detailed and sustained exposure to the technical capabilities of each medium. Following the basic courses, students may pursue studies in any printmaking discipline. Coursework in intaglio includes etching, engraving, drypoint, collagraph, and photo etching. The lithography courses provide instruction in stone, aluminum plate and photo lithography. Serigraphy (silk-screen) offers students the opportunity to learn stencil, resist, photographic, and monoprint/monotype techniques utilizing water-based inks. Relief printing encompasses woodcut, linoleum, wood-engraving, monoprints, monotypes, and collagraphy.
