STATE SENATOR BRAD BURZYNSKI RETIRES FEBRUARY 14, 2011

Residents of the Illinois 35th District are probably aware that State Senator Brad Burzynski will retire February 14, 2011. Christine J. Johnson, DeKalb County Treasurer, has been appointed Burzynski's successor. NIUAA Board Member Bill Lundberg reports, with the DeKalb Daily Chronicle as the source, that Christine Johnson was appointed by a committee of Republican county chairs from the 5 counties in the district. The committee was led by Mary Simons, chair of the DeKalb County Republicans. Members of the selection committee have weighted votes, based on the percentage of votes cast in each county for Senator Burzynski in the 2008 general election. The process for choosing Johnson's successor as county Treasurer has not yet been announced.
