Northern Now is in the Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). An Acrobat viewer such as Acrobat Reader must be used to view Northern Now. The fall 2009 issue of Northern Now tells the story of eight NIU students who's view of the world was broadened by a study-abroad trip to Tanzania. Also featured is the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' 50th anniversary, a list of donors to the True North campaign and information on dozens of Huskie alumni.

The summer 2009 issue of Northern Now features NIU’s recently completed Athletics Hall of Fame display. Readers will also learn about the valuable resources and services available to students and alumni through NIU’s Career Services. Also featured are the 2009 outstanding alumni recipients, including one exceptionally accomplished family who collectively received the outstanding alumni award for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

The spring 2009 issue of Northern Now offers examples of programs in engineering and theatre arts that put classroom theory into real-world practice. Also featured are images from NIU Remembers: A Day of Reflection, a series of events held in remembrance of the five students who lost their lives in a campus shooting on February 14, 2008.

The winter 2009 issue of Northern Now tells of the collaboration between NIU and Rockford’s Burpee Museum in uncovering a major fossil cache. Also revealed is the world’s first and only NIU Center for Burma Studies, which boasts a collection of more than 120,000 Burmese artifacts including art, manuscripts, maps, books, and other treasures. And read about four NIU students who had an unlikely encounter just before heading overseas to serve their country during World War II.
