Could you use some cash for college? If you have a 3.0 GPA and are active within the university and community, we may be able to help you out.

For more than 50 years, the Alumni Association has provided financial assistance to thousands of students. This academic year, the NIU Alumni Association awarded more than $62,000 in scholarships to incoming and continuing college students. Don't let this money pass you by.

FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
This $1,000 scholarship is available to graduating high school seniors. Applicants must have applied and been admitted to NIU as a full-time student. Students applying for the Alumni Association High School Merit Scholarship should complete the same profile form used for Centennial Scholarship consideration.

Students will be considered for either the Alumni Association High School Merit Scholarship or the Centennial Scholarship, but may only receive one award.

FOR CURRENT COLLEGE STUDENTS
The application deadline for the 2008-2009 academic year was February 1, 2008. All applicants will be notified of their scholarship status by the end of the spring semester.

The NIU Alumni Association offers $1000 merit scholarships available to continuing college students who are enrolled full-time at NIU for both the fall and spring semesters ($500 each semester). Each applicant is eligible only to receive one Alumni Association scholarship per academic year.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

  • Student must be currently enrolled, transfer, re-entering, or graduate student with some college coursework completed.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA from all colleges attended (2.0 GPA for Marshall Scholarship).
  • Enrolled full-time at NIU (undergraduates: 12 semester hours; graduates: 9 semester hours) for both the fall and spring semesters.
  • Completed application with all supporting documentation must be returned to the NIU Alumni Association, DeKalb, IL 60115. Check back in the fall for the 2009 Scholarship Applications!

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

  • One page, typed letter from applicant describing outstanding qualities, educational goals, and academic and personal accomplishments.
  • One page, typed professional recommendation (i.e., a letter from a faculty member or an employer) that expounds on the individual's talents and accomplishments. Only one professional recommendation will be considered.
  • Official transcript(s) (copies not acceptable) documenting college coursework. Official transcripts are required from each college attended. NIU transcripts can be obtained from Registration and Records free of charge for the purpose of applying for this scholarship (application must be presented with request).

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
Only one scholarship application needs to be completed in order to be considered for all scholarship awards offered by the NIU Alumni Association.
