Sled Dogs at Morton Arboretum - “Tails On The Trails”
LLI's First Intergenerational Field Trip

The event features Siberian husky sled dogs in three activities: an Iditarod race demonstration, a presentation on the Iditarod’s history and the opportunity for visitors to meet and pet some friendly, lovable huskies available for adoption. Also we will view the beautiful winter landscape of Morton Arboretum as a guide conducts a one-hour tour either in our coach or in trams, depending on the weather. During the tour we learn about the Arboretum’s internationally-renowned plant collections, natural history, research programs and the Morton family legacy.
LLI is opening this delightful field trip to children (7 years and older) so invite a grandchild, niece/nephew, or a young friend to join you. This event might be just the holiday gift you are looking for.
Whether you are bringing a child or coming on your own, expect an interesting, fun-filled winter day. Huskies have a long and storied history in Alaska where these beautiful, sensitive creatures have competed in Iditarod racing. Every year the Iditarod is run to commemorate the race to deliver lifesaving serum to the children of Nome Alaska in 1925. We will see dogsled demonstrations even if there is no snow since wheels will be substituted for sled blades. Of course, we are hoping for a perfect winter day.
Depart from the Holmes Student Center's Normal Road entrance at 9:00 a.m. Saturday, January 26, and return at approximately 5:00 p.m. Fee includes transportation, entrance fee, tour of Arboretum, lunch, and all sled dog events.
