Clinic Overview

During a 12 month period the Clinic provides:

  • Speech-language assessments and treatment to over 1000 individuals
  • Audiological services to over 1000 individuals
  • Outreach speech-language and hearing screenings to over 2000 individuals
  • Clinical education for 125 graduate students
  • In-service learning Activities for 120-140 undergraduate students
  • Services to individuals from DeKalb, Dupage, Kane, Ogle, McHenry, Winnebago, Boone, Lee and Stephenson counties

Assessment Services

Services and clinical education provided include:

  • Hearing screenings
  • Hearing testing for adults and children
  • Neonatal audiological diagnostic testing
  • Hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and repairs
  • Auditory processing evaluations
  • Electrophysiologic assessment of the auditory system
  • Otoacoustic emission testing
  • Assessment of children and adults for language, speech, voice, stuttering, swallowing, feeding, or aphasia
  • Interdisciplinary team assessments
  • Language-Literacy assessments
  • Aural rehabilitation evaluation

Treatment Services

  • Assistive listening device demonstration and dispensing
  • Hearing aid orientation - group or individual
  • Comprehensive aural rehabilitation for individuals with acquired or congenital hearing losses including: auditory training, speechreading, speech and language therapy, and communication strategy training
  • Auditory-Verbal therapy
  • Aural rehabilitation following cochlear implantation
  • Treatment of children and adults for language, speech, voice, stuttering, swallowing, feeding, or aphasia
  • Interdisciplinary team treatment
  • Family-based treatment services during evening hours

Groups

  • Baby sign groups
  • Parent-Infant-Toddler groups
  • Social skills groups for children with autistic spectrum disorder (late afternoon-early evening)

Outreach

  • Home-based speech-language treatment for medically fragile infants and toddlers
  • Swallowing, feeding, and speech-language assessment and treatment for Kishwaukee Community Hospital, DeKalb County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, the Unlimited Performance Outpatient Center, and Rockford Memorial Hospital
  • Speech-language and hearing screenings and services to area and regional schools, hospitals, and community service groups
  • Consultation and in-service education to schools, hospitals and rehabilitation facilities
  • Neonatal hearing screenings at Kishwaukee Community Hospital
