Transitional Advising

Do you need help finding a new major or need help getting back on track for graduation? Our transitional advisors can help you explore and match your academic interests to a new major. We invite you to take the following steps.

  1. Contact the advisor in your current department/school/major and discuss your academic strengths. If you do not feel comfortable in making a decision after this meeting, move on to step two.
  2. With help from your current advisor, contact the Academic Advising Center. After an initial intake meeting, you will be temporarily reassigned to an Academic Advising Center Transitional Advisor to walk you through the major exploration process. Use our Exploring Majors Checklist to help determine your academic and career path.
  3. Apply to your new major! In most cases, after meeting with your current advisor or meeting with a transitional advisor, you will have made your decision about your new major. Apply to your new major by meeting with the advisor for your new program and complete a “Major Change” form. Please note, there are deadlines to change your major each semester. You can consult the "Undergraduate Academic Calendar" in the Undergraduate Catalog for major change deadline dates.
