Michelle Pickett

Michelle joined the AAC staff in June 2007. She has worked over eight years at NIU in the College of Education and Office of Admissions. Prior to NIU, Michelle served as a residential trainer to adults with special needs.


Steven Barleen

Prior to joining the AAC staff in January 2005, Steven worked in both admissions and academic advising at College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn . He also served in the Army and Army National Guard and has taught English as a second language in Japan . He currently teaches UNIV 101 each fall.

Jonathon joined the AAC staff in August 2008, after working as an academic advisor at North Central College in Naperville, IL. Jonathon has experience in serveral offices at NIU including Orientation & First Year Experience, the Women's Resource Center, and the Academic Advising Center, in which he served as a graduate assistant from 2005 to 2007.

Colette joined the AAC staff in June 2007 after serving as a counselor in the CHANCE Program for over 7 years. She enjoys teaching UNIV 101 each fall. Prior to coming to Northern Illinois University, she has worked as a youth therapist for both a community mental health agency and a residential facility.

Beverly joined the Academic Advising Center in June 2007 after serving as a counselor in the CHANCE Program for over 7 years. She taught UNIV 101 for seven years. Prior to coming to NIU, she worked as a Health Educator for DeKalb County Health Department.


Mazen Nagi

Mazen joined the AAC staff in June 2008. He brings to the AAC his previous work experience as an academic advisor and instructor within NIU's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences' Political Science Department. Mazen has extensive teaching experience having taught courses at Benedictine University, North Central College, Rockford College, Columbia College and Rima College in Malaysia. Currently, he is pursuing a Ph.D. in Political Science at NIU and teaching a course at Columbia College.

Joyce joined the Academic Advising Center in July 2006. She has over 18 years of professional experience at NIU having served Health Enhancement Services, Assessment Services and the Student Association.

Rachel started her assistantship with the AAC in Fall 2008.  She graduated from NIU with a degree in Psychology in May 2008 and has started a master's degree in Counseling.


Aja Humphreys

Aja just joined the AAC staff as a graduate assistant this Fall 2009 term.  She graduated from NIU with a degree in Sociology in May 2009 and has started a master's degree in Counseling.
