2010 Open Houses

Holmes Student Center,

9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

  • Monday, February 15, 2010 (Presidents' Day)
  • Friday, April 2, 2010 (Spring Vacation) 

Open House Activities:

  • Campus bus tours
  • Residence hall visits
  • University information fair
  • "Northern Exposure" - Enjoy an overview of NIU, admissions information, housing and student services information, and a campus life discussion with current NIU students. Presentations at:  9:00 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12 noon, and 1:30 p.m.
  • Additional information for new students admitted for Fall  Semester 2010 about the steps necessary to prepare for the beginning of classes: housing, financial aid, placement testing, and summer orientation programs will be presented at the 12 Noon and 1:30 PM "Northern Exposure" Presentations in February, 2010 and April, 2010.  
  • Special academic events (many are morning events)
  • On-the-Side Events Schedule (click on link for a schedule of events posted seven to ten days prior to each Open House)

Open House Parking

  • Free Open House parking is available at the Convocation Center in lot C-2. Shuttle buses will transport you from the Convocation Center to the Holmes Student Center where Open House activities will begin.
  • Use the Convocation Center entrance on Lincoln Highway (Route 38), approximately 1/2 mile west of Annie Glidden Road.
  • Please park in the free Open House lot at the Convocation Center or the Visitor's parking pay lot only (other lots on campus are reserved for current NIU students, faculty and staff).

Additional Information

  • Reservations are not required. 
  • Morning arrival is strongly recommended to enjoy the widest range of program options.
  • Groups of more than 10 people and persons with disabilities should call ahead to (815)-753-1536 or email in advance to cporterfield@niu.edu, at least 1 week prior to the date of the Open House, to plan accommodations through the Office of Admissions.
