Next Steps / Once You Are Admitted ...

You must confirm your plans to attend NIU with the Office of Admissions, upon receiving an admissions offer notification.

  • Admitted students access MyNIU to confirm enrollment plans.
  • See your MyNIU "To Do" list for the confirmation instructions.
    • After Log In, click on "Self Service".
    • Next click on "Student Admission".
    • Then click "Accept Admission" to choose "accept or decline" of the admissions offer.
    • Click "Accept" to confirm intent to enroll at NIU.
    • You must "Confirm" to have all submitted final official college transcripts evaluated and to be invited to attend a new Transfer Student Orientation for initial NIU college academic advisement  and course registration for the first semester on campus.
    • Only admitted and confirmed Transfer Students are eligible to make a reservation for a new Transfer Student Orientation, once the reservation period for the semester admitted opens, as announced by the Orientation Office.
  • Once you have confirmed your intention to enroll,  your evaluation of transferable courses for all submitted final official transcripts will be initiated and posted to your MyNIU pages when completed.   You may view the evaluation on-line at your MyNIU page once it is completed.
  • Evaluations of transferable course credit are posted as completed, require evaluation and processing time, and are not instantaneous.  Be patient and monitor your MyNIU site for updates on a daily/weekly basis.
  • NIU Admissions provides several options for students to view how specific courses transfer to NIU before receiving a formal transfer course evaluation. See Transfer Program Major Guides for the Transfer Guides and for the Articulation Tables information.  Contact the NIU Transfer Center for questions, guidance about transfer information, and general transfer planning assistance.
  • Check your planned NIU major academic college or department web site for additional academic advising information.  You will meet with your college major academic advising department and academic advisors for an initial formal advisement at your new Transfer Student Orientation program.
  • See Academic Advising, Orientation & Registration.  Admitted and confirmed Transfer students may make an Orientation program reservation, once the reservation period for their admitted term is opened by the Orientation Office.
  • Download "Northern Directions (PDF)" for the next steps for new admitted Transfer students and the information all new NIU students need to know.
