Northern Illinois University

Undergraduate Admissions

Illinois Public Community
College Graduates

A graduate of an Illinois public community college who has not previously attended Northern will be admitted to NIU.

The student will enter with junior standing and all NIU general education requirements will be considered complete if the student has the following qualifications prior to enrolling at NIU. (See "Special English 104 Requirement" for possible exception.)

    1. An associate's degree (A.A. or A.S.) in a baccalaureate-oriented program. Applied science degrees (A.A.S.) do not meet this requirement.
    2. At least a "C" average (2.00 on a 4.00 scale) as calculated by the community college.
    3. At least 60 semester hours of credit.
    4. Be in good standing at the last college attended.

These benefits do not necessarily satisfy any additional course requirements that may be needed for a specific major program at NIU.
