Faculty Credentials Policy

In support of its goal to ensure high-quality teaching and learning in its curricula, Northern Illinois University ensures that members of its instructional corps are well-qualified to teach students enrolled in credit-bearing courses. The enacted Faculty Credentials Policy establishes the minimum standard for ensuring all members of the instructional corps are qualified to teach courses to which they are assigned and complies with the Assumed Practices of the Higher Learning Commission.

Faculty Qualifications Reporting (FQR) Form

It is the responsibility of any prospective individual assigned to teach an NIU-delivered, credit-bearing course, except study abroad courses offered by a third-party, to supply any and all documentation attesting to the awarding of appropriate degrees or other documents required to ensure that the individuals meet minimum standards. The director/chairperson of the academic department must submit such documentation on behalf of new instructional staff using the Faculty Qualifications Reporting (FQR) Form, be approved by the college, and reviewed by the Office of the Provost prior to the first day when the individual is scheduled to teach.

See the provided training and support materials for details regarding the process for completing a new FQR form for new employees before being assigned to teach for the first time or revising a completed form when credential qualifications change.
