Northern Illinois University has a regional site in Naperville, Illinois, which opened in 2000. NIU Naperville is located at 1120 E. Diehl Road. The 113,000-square-foot, $20 million facility includes 12 classrooms, two computer labs, and a 4,500-square-foot multi-purpose area suitable for hosting small conferences and other events. All students live off campus.
NIU Naperville also serves as headquarters for Learning Points Associates, an organization that helps teachers teach better and students learn better. NIU Naperville also houses Learning Studios, a full service education management and consulting firm.
Additionally several NIU Outreach units and affiliates have offices or training space at NIU Naperville: Active Learning, the Broadband Development Group, the Center for Governmental Studies, Credentialing, the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association, the Institute for Work in the Economy (through December 2007), the Northern Illinois Technology Enterprise Center, and the Rapid Optimization of Commercial Knowledge (ROCK) group.
NIU Naperville has been forunate in not experiencing any serious crimes to date, but such incidents conceivably could occur. Students, faculty, and staff are expected to be circumspect and responsible for adopting such personal measures as may be appropriate for their circumstances to protect themselves and their possessions.
A security guard is available Monday through Friday from 3 to 11 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to assist students, faculty, and staff as situations arise. A fire alarm system is in place.
Dial 911 to report all emergencies or non-emergency criminal violations. Contact the main office to report any safety or security non-emergency by calling (630) 577-9101. NIU Naperville gets support from the Naperville Police Department. To reach the Naperville Police Department call (630) 420-6666.
When an incident occurs, an incident report is completed. Copies of the report are maintained at NIU Naperville as well as sent to the appropriate department on the main campus. NIU Naperville adheres to the NIU Student Code of Conduct. The Judicial Affairs Office on the main campus in DeKalb handles student disciplinary matters for this campus, as well as the main campus.
Visitors to the campus are encouraged to check in at the reception desk in the lobby. NIU Naperville’s hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The center is closed on Sunday. When NIU Naperville is closed, all exterior doors are locked with key card access for tenant staff.
NIU Naperville adheres to the drug, alcohol and sexual assault policies that are used on the main campus. In addition, all other policies and procedures governing this site are consistent with the policies and procedures outlined within this report for the DeKalb campus.
