Crime Statistics - NIU Rockford

NIU Rockford opened its doors in fall 1995 as a response to a long-felt need for increased access and high quality educational services, not only to Rockford citizens, but to residents throughout the stateline area.

Courses in programs leading to bachelor’s and master's degrees are conveniently offered at night and on Saturdays to accommodate working adults. NIU Rockford also offers non-credit business and skill-development seminars and workshops.

The center's staff is dedicated to assisting guests who include students attending NIU classes and business clientele who rent meeting rooms for training sessions and conferences.

All students live off campus.

NIU Rockford has been fortunate in not experiencing any serious crimes to date, but such incidents conceivably could occur. There were no reported hate crimes for the years 2004, 2005 or 2006.  Students, faculty, and staff are expected to be circumspect and responsible for adopting such personal measures as may be appropriate for their circumstance to protect themselves and their possessions.

Law Enforcement / Security

A security guard is available from 5 p.m. until the close of the campus building to assist students, faulty, and staff as situations arise. Fire and burglar alarm systems are in place.

Reporting Procedures

Dial 911 to report all emergencies or non-emergency criminal violations.  Contact the main office to report any safety or security non-emergency by calling (815) 332-7339.  NIU Rockford gets support from the Rockford Police Department.  To reach the Rockford Police Department call (815) 987-5800.

When an incident occurs, an incident report is completed.  Copies of the report are maintained at NIU Rockford as well as sent to the appropriate department on the main campus.  NIU Rockford adheres to the NIU Student Code of Conduct. The Judicial Affairs Office on the main campus in DeKalb handles student disciplinary matters for this campus, as well as the main campus.

NIU Rockford adheres to the drug, alcohol and sexual assault policies that are used on the main campus.
