The Federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act, which became effective October 28, 2002, requires Northern Illinois University to inform the campus community where to find information on registered sex offenders. Illinois law requires sex offenders to register with their local police or sheriff, which places their names in a state-wide database. The State of Illinois Registered Sex Offenders database can be accessed at www.isp.state.il.us.
