CONTEST GUIDELINES

ASIAN AMERICAN ESSAY CONTEST

    The Asian American Resources announces an interdisciplinary essay contest for all NIU students. The contest will award cash prizes to the best paper on any topic dealing with your Asian experience. This could include such topics as model minority, assimilation, identity, history, adjusting to the U.S., immigration, etc.

We encourage all students of all backgrounds and fields of study to enter.

AWARD. The winning paper will receive a $100 cash award, second place $75, third place $50, and certificates for 3 honorable mentions. All papers will be read and judged by a panel of 3 faculty members and staff. Winners will be contacted by phone and will be formally recognized with their prizes at the Taste of Asia on April 30, 2004.

CRITERIA. All papers need to be typed, double-spaced, and be between 5 - 7 pages. Submit four (4) non-returnable hard copies and a non-returnable file on diskette (please format file on Microsoft Word).

ELIGIBILITY. Open to all students enrolled full-time or part-time in any major. One entry per person. The entry must not have been published or won in any other contest. Papers written in fulfillment of course requirements are encouraged.

DEADLINE. 4:30 p.m., April 9, 2004. All completed entries must be received in the University Programming Activities Office in room 150 of the Campus Life Building.
