Employment Discrimination

NIU policy prohibits employment/academic decisions that are unrelated to performance, qualifications, academic achievement, and/or conduct that seek to limit, segregate, or classify employees/students on the basis of a protected category.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) defines a protected category as characteristic(s) of a person which cannot be targeted for discrimination. Protected categories are recognized by federal, state laws, as well as NIU policy.
