He's a certified physics teacher in the state of Illinois and a full time employee of NIU STEM Outreach.

Please contact us with any questions about programming or camp life at STEMOutreach@niu.edu or 815-753-0533.

STEM Camp Staff

Camp instructors are experienced classroom teachers, NIU faculty and students.

Counselors are NIU students who are majoring in science or education. They enjoy working with young people and having a great time with science. They assist with the sessions and lead science-related recreational activities.

Facilities

Unless otherwise noted in the camp description, all STEM summer camps are located on our NIU DeKalb Campus, so campers  get a feel for campus life. Campers reside in double rooms on a secure floor in a residence hall with our counselors. They share the dorm and dining hall with campers from many of our other summer programs. They walk to and from labs just as they will in college.

Most camp activities occur in Faraday Hall labs, outdoors and our STEM classroom. We also use Davis Hall Observatory and other science facilities on campus.

This summer we will again hold some camps at our NIU Lorado Taft Campus, the university’s 141-acre outdoor education and conference campus. Campers stay in bunkhouses and enjoy family style meals in the conference center dining hall.

Forms

After your initial registration and deposit, you'll be emailed electronic application forms from an online system called CampDocs in order to complete the remainder of your camper's application. Most of our communication is through email, so be sure to use an email address you check often.

We must receive your entire application and deposit to initiate the evaluation process before before we can accept a camper for any session.

For general questions about applications forms, contact Sara Finnigan.

For campership scholarship application forms, email Judith Dymond as early as possible.

Scholarships

NIU STEM Outreach has limited funding for camperships for youth who otherwise would not be able to attend camp due to financial concerns. Camperships will be awarded based on need and demonstrated interest in STEM. Camperships can either be full or partial. You must request an application form from Judith Dymond.

We're willing to work with schools or community organizations to help select campership recipients. If you're a parent and feel your child may benefit from one of our STEM summer residential programs, please work with your child's teacher, school counselor or a community organization to increase the likelihood of acceptance in our program. Scholarships are based on need and not merit.

We are no longer accepting campership applications for STEM Summer Camps 2018.
