Cole-Stevens Complex
Complex Definition Statement
In anticipation of today’s release of funding to renovate Cole Hall, NIU officials have been preparing plans for the building:
Auditorium A (100)
- This space will continue to be used as a large lecture hall, but one substantially updated from the current facility, originally designed in the 1960s. Upgrades will include:
- Installing modern seating
- Replacing the sloping floor with staggered decking
- Designing and installing a new stage and projection system
- Upgrading the control booth and installing smart classroom technologies
Auditorium B (101)
- This space will be remodeled for non-classroom activities. Options for its use are still under consideration. Any remodeling will include:
- Using decking to level the sloping floor of the auditorium
- Subdividing space into multiple rooms to meet needs of new uses
General Improvements
- Updating HVAC, electrical and plumbing
- Removing asbestos
- Remodeling lobbies, hallways, etc .
- Renovating building exterior
