Grady panel seeks public input

DeKalb, Ill. — The review committee looking into allegations concerning the performance of NIU Police Chief Donald Grady held an organizational meeting today to set a framework, establish guidelines and begin its evaluation.

The committee will accept signed, written statements regarding this matter until noon on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Contact information should be included for verification purposes. Statements received will be considered by the committee during their personnel review process.

Since the review is a personnel matter, NIU respects the privacy of all parties involved. Accordingly, the proceedings of the review panel will remain private. NIU officials will make public final decisions that emerge after reviewing the findings and recommendations of the advisory panel.

The review committee is comprised of:

  • The Honorable John L. Nickels (Chair) - a former Illinois Supreme Court justice who practiced law in Kane County for more than 20 years. Justice Nickels has also served as a circuit court judge and was elected to the appellate court in 1990. 
  • Marlon C. Lynch is Associate Vice President for Safety and Security at the University of Chicago. He previously served as Police Chief at Vanderbilt University, and currently serves as the President of the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
  • Robert T. Marshall, Jr. is a retired higher education administrator who most recently served as vice president for student services at South Suburban College in South Holland. Marshall is a member of the American Association for Counseling and Development.
