DeKalb, Ill. — Leaders of the educational partnership between DeKalb Community Unit School District 428 and Northern Illinois University – the collaboration includes Wright and Chesebro elementary schools as well as the new DeKalb High School opening in 2011 – have issued the following statement as members of the school board discuss new grade level configurations.
“District 428 and NIU have built a substantial partnership. At the partnership schools, student performance has risen, NIU teacher candidates have benefitted from extended clinical experiences in the schools, and both 428 educators and NIU faculty have improved their knowledge and skills through shared activities. We are hoping to continue and expand these positive results, even as we deal with financial uncertainties that challenge education at every level. District 428 is currently conducting a comprehensive review of grade level configuration and a facility operations/utilization study. Once District 428 makes its decisions, we will jointly evaluate future partnership activities and redesign them as appropriate for the new building configurations and our collective budget capacity.”
